The Aurora Police Department (APD) is the municipal law enforcement agency serving the City of Aurora, Colorado, one of the state's largest and fastest-growing cities. Established in 1907, APD provides comprehensive law enforcement services to a diverse urban and suburban community. The department operates patrol districts and specialized units responsible for crime prevention, emergency response, criminal investigations, traffic enforcement, community policing, and public safety. APD maintains a wide range of specialized assignments, including SWAT, Strategic Response & Tactics (SRT), K-9, motorcycle enforcement, traffic and crash investigation, school resource officers, narcotics and auto-theft investigations, homicide and major-crime detectives, hostage negotiators, gang intervention, bike patrol, and emergency response teams. The department emphasizes community partnership, transparency, accountability, and professional policing. Its current mission is centered on making Aurora safer every day, while building trust and working with residents, businesses, schools, and community organizations. APD currently employs approximately 748 sworn officers and 212 professional staff members.
