he Massachusetts State Police (MSP) is the statewide law enforcement agency for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and is the oldest statewide law enforcement agency in the United States, tracing its origins to the State Constabulary established in 1865. Today, the agency provides statewide police services, highway patrol, criminal investigations, emergency response, homeland security, and specialized tactical operations throughout Massachusetts. Troopers patrol major highways, protect state-owned properties, investigate major crimes alongside local agencies, and operate specialized units including the Air Wing, Marine Unit, Bomb Squad, K-9 Unit, Crime Laboratory, Special Tactical Operations (STOP Team), and Detective Units. The Massachusetts State Police is also responsible for operating the State Police Academy and supporting public safety through advanced forensic and investigative services across the Commonwealth.
