The Escambia County Sheriff's Office (ECSO) is the primary county law enforcement agency serving Escambia County, Florida, including the unincorporated areas of the county and the Town of Century. The office provides patrol, criminal investigations, traffic enforcement, court security, civil process, detention, warrants, community policing, and emergency response. ECSO also operates several precincts throughout the county and works closely with the Pensacola Police Department, Florida Highway Patrol, and federal agencies. The Sheriff's Office has a particularly long history. Florida's first appointed sheriff was Henri Piere, appointed as Sheriff of Escambia County in 1821, making the office one of the oldest law-enforcement institutions in Florida.
